The top three (3) place winners in each Junior Division weight class qualify above the state limit for their state's Junior National Team in the style in which they place.
The Senior Division is an open tournament and is a qualifier for the 2014 Senior World Team Trials.
USA Wrestling does not charge for adjusting weight classes, even at weigh-ins. Registration will be capped at 300 junior wrestlers per style. Sign up early to guarantee your spot.
USA Wrestling’s regional events are contested in freestyle and Greco-Roman, the only two styles of wrestling at the Olympic level. Freestyle wrestling is exciting, creative, and dynamic because points can be scored from almost anywhere. The most recent Olympic wrestling gold medals were won by freestyle wrestlers Jordan Burroughs and Jake Varner in 2012 and Henry Cejudo in 2008. Other notable freestyle wrestlers include Cael Sanderson (Olympic gold medalist and four-time undefeated NCAA champion), Jake Herbert (World silver medalist and two-time NCAA Champion), and Tervel Dlagnev (World bronze medalist and two-time Division II NCAA Champion). Greco-Roman wrestling is known for powerful lifts and big throws, as all attacks must be made above the waist. Current National Greco-Roman Head Coach Steve Fraser was a gold medalist in 1984, and Rulon Gardner won gold in 2000.
The Junior regionals are open to all athletes who meet the age categories. Juniors do NOT have to meet residency requirements.
The current Junior age division features wrestlers born September 1, 1994 and after, plus currently enrolled in grades 9-12. Age and weight divisions for the Girls Freestyle Festival will be determined after weigh-ins. Additional information on age and weight divisions can be found here.
Other qualification procedures may apply for regional participation. Some states require participation in their respective state freestyle/Greco-Roman tournament. Visit your state’s website or contact your state leader to confirm. Click here for state information.
The top three (3) place winners in each weight class qualify for their state's National Team above the state limit. USA Wrestling's ASICS/Vaughan Junior & Cadet National Championships are July 19-26, 2014. Additionally, all athletes must follow their respective state policies even though they may place in the top three (3) at a Regional event.
