Dear DSMI Coach and Official,
Recently, all United States NGBs have certified their compliance with the Minimum Standards Policy for Athlete Safety Programs as a condition of membership. This included an education and training requirement:
Education & Training
Each NGB shall require education and training concerning the key elements of their safety program for those individuals it formally authorizes, approves or appoints (a) to a position of authority over, or (b) to have frequent contact with athletes.
We wish to clarify this requirement. Given that training, residing or otherwise participating in similar NGB-sponsored activities at the Olympic Training Centers necessarily involves frequent contact with athletes, it is the USOC’s expectation that any individual (coach or otherwise) an NGB authorizes to train, reside or work at any Olympic Training Center be subject to the education and training requirement. Accordingly, such individuals are expected to demonstrate successful completion of a safe sport training before accessing any OTC as part of the minimum standards policy. If your NGB does not utilize the USOC’s safe sport training, such individuals must be able to produce a certificate of completion for an equivalent program.
ALL COACHES AND OFFICIALS MUST COMPLETE THE SAFE SPORT PROGRAM. PLEASE CLICK HERE
Thank you for your commitment to safe sport.
In the Olympic Spirit,
